Now is the time to start thinking about how
you can host a neighborhood party. The police department has great
ideas and giveaways to help you out. All you need to do is register to
receive information and planning packets. All NEW parties will receive
free picnic party packs!

National Night Out is designed to:

. Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
. Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs
. Strengthen neighborhood and police community partnerships
. Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods
are organized and fighting back

Other activities that are planned for NNO include:

. Open House at the Ramsey Police Department on Monday,
August 4th - Cops & Coffee Come learn about being safer
with your local police!
. Coloring Contest - available June 27th - awesome prizes!
. Activity Sheet - Preventing Auto Theft & Theft from Auto -
awesome prizes!
. Food drive for the local food shelf
. Award of Excellence Competition - NEW - For neighborhoods
to participate in!

The police department's goal is to target a specific crime
problem in our city to focus on for the year. Our NNO planning
activities are then centered around that focus area. Because of the
increased rate of theft from vehicles and vehicle theft, we have
chosen this as our focus for crime prevention education and our NNO
celebrations. Our theme will follow the "Lock Out Crime, Lock
Out Opportunity" message.
What does this mean to Ramsey Residents? It means that
you will have access to a variety of educational materials that help
protect you against these crimes! Did you lmow that most of the
cities "theft from vehicle" crimes are committed right in your
driveways and garages? This can be prevented if you tal(e the time
to ensure that your valuables are protected. Please take time to read
the article titled: Prevention Theft from Automobiles. Preventing a
crime is a lot less difficult than being a victim of it.
To request more information on NNO or a registration pacl(et,
please contact Chandra Kreyer at the Ramsey Police Department at
763.433.9891 or claeyer@ci.ramsey.mn.us.

NATIONAL GUARD TO LAND
AT KID'S SAFETY CAMP!

The Minnesota Army National Guard will
land a "Huey" helicopter at the Kid's Safety Camp
being held at the Boy Scout Camp in Ramsey on
Tuesday, July 15th in connection with Drug Abuse
Resistance Education. All enrolled safety camp
kids and their immediate family members will
be invited to the Huey landing and
presentation.
At the request of the Ramsey Police
Department, the National Guard's Drug Demand
Reduction Program will fly the II-passenger UH-
IH utility helicopter to the Kid's Safety Camp to
reinforce the drug-free life style taught by
D.A.R.E.
The crew will discuss the helicopter,
survival equipment and remaining drug-free.
Students will tour the helicopter after the
presentation. The Drug Demand Reduction
Program offers drug-free role models and flies
daily to Minnesota school events.

DOOR TO DOOR SALES

Transient merchants and peddlers who sell
merchandise to Ramsey residents by going door-
to-door must acquire a license from the City of
Ramsey. If you are visited by a door-to-door
salesperson, you may request to see their "City"
license authorizing them to sell in this manner.
If the salesperson is not licensed, call 911
to report the incident. Any information you can
provide to the police will be helpful (vehicle license
number, make and color of vehicle, etc.). The
police will attempt to contact the seller and inform
him or her of the licensing requirements.
Nonprofit, religious, political, educational,
and charitable organizations and school children
selling items to raise funds on behalf of nonprofit
organizations are exempt from the licensing
requirements. The City licenses transient
merchants and peddlers to ensure the safety of its
citizens.
If you have any questions, please contact
Jo Thieling, 763-433-9840.

There s no fitture in tin1e travel. - Anonyn10us
