<br /> <br />5 <br /> <br />TREE SALE AND ENVIRONMENTAL ExpO <br />SATURDAY, MAY 3,2003, 7 AM -1:00 PM <br /> <br />The City of Ramsey and Ramsey Elem. School partner to <br />bring you a Tree Sale and Environmental Expo for a spring Arbor <br />Day celebration on May 3rd. <br />Local nurseries will have a wide selection of fruit ,nut and <br />shade trees as well as shrubs for sale. A range of sizes will e <br />available, seedlings, potted and bare root sapling and large balled <br />and burlap 2" diameter transplants. <br />There will be an Arbor Day Tree plantings with Mr. Clusiau <br />(Principal) and Mayor Games along with an entertaining program <br />of singing from our 1 st and 2nd graders at Ramsey School. <br />Lyle Bradley leads a bird wall< for parents and children <br />through the school nature area at 7am. The tree sale begins at <br />7am and runs untillpm. Programs and exhibits are 8:00am to <br />1 :OOpm. <br />Displays and educational programs are inside and outside <br />the school( weather permitting). The Raptor Center, Bell Museum <br />of Natural History, Petting Zoo, Herpetological Society, Wargo <br />Nature Center, Log Sawing and games for the lads in the cafeteria <br />will be some of the events that will tal<e place on the 3rd. of May. <br />Bring your family and have fun playing games, and visiting <br />the turtles, snal<es, rocl<s and minerals. Deferred street <br />maintenance, less snowplowing. Delayed or <br />eliminated development to accommodate the needs <br />of fast-growing communities, and for business and <br />housing redevelopment in older cities. Fewer police <br />officers. Street lights that are being turned off. <br />These are some of the actions cities <br />throughout Minnesota are tal<ing in response to <br />legislative proposals from the Governor and Senate <br />that would limit the ability of cities to use the only <br />tools available to them -local property taxes and <br />state shared revenues - to continue providing the <br />quality of life Minnesotans expect and deserve. <br />Currently, the City of Ramsey provides <br />services to residents including: <br /> <br />· Police and fire protection <br />· Street maintenance <br />. Parl< maintenance and improvements <br />· Land use and zoning review <br />· Administration and support of numerous <br />community events <br /> <br />The City provides these services primarily <br />through apportion of the property taxes it receives <br />and with funding from two property tax relief and <br />reimbursement programs called Local Government <br />Aid and Marl<et Value Homestead Credit Our City <br />currently receives $764,986 in LGA and MVHC, <br />commonly referred to as state shared revenues, and <br />$4,031,546 in property taxes. <br />The proposals before the Legislature would <br />drastically reduce state shared revenues.
