7

SNOWPLOWING

MAILBOX REPLACEMENT POLICY

The winter season is fast approaching and we
alllmow what that means - Snowplowing! The Public
Works Department is responsible for clearing all city
streets and municipal parking lots. This equates to over
300 lane miles of roads. The Public Works Department
makes every attempt to avoid damage, but because of
the conditions encountered during plowing and the size
of the equipment used, it is sometimes difficult to judge
where the edge of the pavement ends, and where the
grass begins.
The City retains an easement on the edge of
the road for snow storage purposes. When sod is
damaged due to plowing in this easement it will be
repaired, in the spring, with blacl( dirt and grass seed.
Irrigation systems, landscaping and plant materials
placed in the City's easement will not be repaired and
are the responsibility of the homeowner.
Several things can be done to diminish the
chance of damage to the easement near your home.

1) Place wooden lath every 20 to 30 feet along
the boulevard to mark the road edge.
2) Pay special attention when staking corners and
radiuses, as they are difficult to judge after a
snowfall
3) Checl( the condition of your mailbox. Is the
main post rotted? Is the box itself firmly
secured to the post? Make repairs now before
the weather turns cold and the ground is frozen.
If you have any questions about snowplowing,
please call Ramsey Public Worl(s at (612) 427-8254.

ICE RINK SCHEDULE /1\ ".
AND CLOSING --- /'
GUIDELINES

Ice rinl(s at Ramsey Elementary School (15100
Nowthen Boulevard N.W.) and Central Parl( (7925
161 st Avenue N.W.) are open weekdays from 3:30 p.m.
to 9:00 p.m. (10 p.m. ifneeded); Saturdays from 9:00
a.m. to 10:00 p.m.; and Sundays from noon to 8:00
p.m.
Rinks will be closed if:
1. Temperatures are 10 degrees below zero or lower,
and expected to remain so.
2. Rinks are in unsafe conditions due to warm
weather.
3. Attendant may close if weather conditions become
severe and are expected to remain so.
4. Temperatures are 32 degrees or above.

Mailboxes installed and maintained to City U.S. Post
Office regulations which are damaged as a result of direct contact
by City snow removal equipment will be temporarily repaired
within 48 hours of receiving notification of such damage. If the
mailbox cannot be temporarily repaired, a portable mailbox will
be set in place so mail service will be continued. The City will
replace the damaged mailbox structure the following spring with
a standard No.1 black, white, or silver mailbox mounted on 4-
by 4- inch treated post.
Residents whose mailboxes are lmocl(ed down as a
result of direct contact by City snow removal equipment may
request $75 allowances, if they so choose, to replace the mailbox
structures themselves, relieving the City of any further obligation.
In such cases, the City will provide portable, temporary mailboxes
until the following spring.
Mailboxes, which are not installed to City and U.S. Post
Office regulations or are damaged due to snow deposited from
plows (versus being hit by City snow removal equipment), will
not be replaced. The City is not responsible for damage to
media or paper boxes and will not repair them.

TTENTION SNOWMOBILERS
IN ANOKA COUNTY

Are you a member of your local snowmobile club? You
should be! Joining a club isn't just an excellent way to meet
other snowmobilers in your area; more importantly, participation
in your local club can positively affect the future of snowmobiling
in your community. In order to preserve our right to ride in this
area, we need to band together - we alllmow there is strength
in numbers. The Ramsey Snow-Rams are always seel(ing new
members to join our club. Our club brings sledders of all ages
together to promote and enjoy the positive aspects of this sport
that we love.
Throughout the year, we are involved in various
activities including teaching snowmobile safety classes,
participating in the Anoka Halloween Parades, working at Happy
Days, and Adopt-A-Roadway clean up. All club members
automatically receive a membership in MnUSA, the state
organization that is dedicated to maintaining our rights as
snowmobilers in Minnesota. By joining our club, you are
supporting snowmobiling in your own community, as well as
throughout the state.
With winter finally here, now is the time to join a club
and mal(e a difference! The Snow-Rams meet at 7:30 p.m. on
the first Monday of each month at Holm's SuperBowl off
Highway # 10 in Ramsey. For more information, check out our
website: www.snowrams.org or e-mail us at
RamseySnowRams@aol.com, or contact Tim at 763-424-5329
or Bob at 763-427-3944.

I've learned. . .
