PLASTICS RECYCLING FACTS
. First introduced in the late 1970s, plastic bags today carry 80 percent of
the nation's groceries. *
. With nearly 600 facilities, the Midwest has the highest concentration of
plastic recycling facilities in the United States.
. Carpet, clothing, playground equipment, new packaging and plastic lumber
are some of the products that can be made from recycled plastics.
. Recycling one ton of plastics saves the equivalent of 3.85 barrels of oil.
. Trex Company recycles approximately 1.3 billion recycled plastic bags
each year. About half of all recycled grocery bags are used to manufacture
Trex@ decking. **
. Each Trex decl(ing board (16- feet long, 2 x 6 inches) uses approximately
2,250 plastic bags. * *
. Trex decl(ing and railing is made from approximately 50 percent recycled
plastic and 50 percent reclaimed wood waste, such as used wooden
pallets, scrap wood from woodworking operations and other materials
that would otherwise go to a landfill. **
. Trex declang and railing annually utilizes about 250 million pounds of plastic,
with 70 million of that from grocery sacks and stretch wrap. Around 250
million pounds of hardwood sawdust is also used annually. **
THE RECYCLING
STICKERS ARE BACK!

A sheet of stickers should be
included in this addition of the Ramsey
Resident. These recycling sticl(ers can
be used to marl( your calendar as a
reminder of which Mondays your
recycling should be placed out at the
curb. There are three holidays this
year that will affect the day in which
recycling is collected. These include
Memorial Day, Independence Day, and
