The theme is "Celebrating Healthy
Living. "
"Information about services for senior
citizens is the focus of the Expo," said Anoka County
Commissioner Dicl( Lang. "It's also an enjoyable
time for seniors and their families - especially the
free pancakes flipped by Chris Cal(es."
The expo will again feature free blood
pressure checl(s and mini-massages, along with
numerous resource booths provided by agencies
who serve seniors. Visitors will be greeted with
entertainment by a concertina and a bass player.
"Last year, roughly 500 people from all over
the county visited more than 50 booths packed full
of useful information," said Commissioner Dennis
Berg. "It's a great event." There is ample parking
and handicapped accessibility.
The event is sponsored by the Elder/
Vulnerable Adult Action Team of the Alliance for
a Violence Free Anoka County and Anoka County
Human Services. Some of our donations and activities since
last fall:
. Purchased ballistic vests and equipment for police reserves
. Purchased equipment for Anoka skate parl(
. Helped distressed families with medical or funeral expenses
. Partially sponsored a high school student for People-to-
People program
. Distributed food basl(ets at Thanksgiving and Christmas to
local citizens that needed a hand this year
. Halloween hayrides
. Holiday light tour for seniors
. Scholarships
The Ramsey Lions provide a number of college scholarship
opportunities for local residents. We have awarded $3,000 each to
Anoka-Hennepin Technical College, Anoka-Ramsey Community
College, Elk River Area High School and Anoka High School for
scholarships. The high school scholarships are for college bound
seniors currently living in Ramsey or Burns Township. The Technical
College and Community College scholarships are for students of
any age that reside in Ramsey or Burns Township. While the Lions
provide the funding, recipients are chosen by the schools.
F or undergraduate students enrolled in any other accredited
college, the Lions have a separate scholarship fund and independent
scholarship committee. Application information is available on our
web site www.RamseyLions.org.
Lool(ing forward, our big event is the Lions Community
Picnic, scheduled as always for the first Saturday in June. More
information on this free family event will be in the next newsletter.

RAMSEY SENIORS

The Ramsey Seniors met on January 7,2004, for their first
meeting of the year.
