2 PARK AND RECREATION CoMMIssIoN MEETING SCHEDULE Please note that the Park and Recreation Commission meeting will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the locations listed below for the next six months: July 8th — Solstice Park August 12th — Flintwood Terrace September 9th — Alpine October 14th — Ramsey Town Center South Park The meetings will be held at Fire Station I in case of inclement weather. NEW IN TOWN If you are a new resident of the City of Ramsey, please visit the Municipal Center between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday- Friday to pick up a new resident packet and your recycling bin. The Municipal Center is located at 15153 Nowthen Blvd. NW, north of Ramsey Elementary School on the opposite side of the road. RUM RIVER LIBRARY Do you have a hobby or collection that you would like to share with others? How about showcasing a community club you belong to? Rum River Library has three locked display cases available for public use on a monthly basis. Examples of recent exhibits include artwork from Wilson Elementary School students, a loon collection, and an exhibit promoting 4 -H Clubs. Displays by local artists are always welcome. Items can be displayed on glass shelves, the bulletin board backing, or a combination of the two. We do ask that the displays not promote commercial interests or a particular political or religious viewpoint. Stop by or call our reference desk with questions or to choose your date. RAMSEY KID'S SAFETY CiviP JULY 2OTH & 21sT Registration forms for the 3 annual Ramsey Kid's Safety Camp are now available at the Police Department, City Hall, and on- line at www.ci.ramsey.mn.us. Eligible campers are youth entering 3 and 4th grades in the Fall of 2004 (current 2 and 3 graders). Entering 5th graders will have an opportunity to attend the camp if there are available spaces. The camp is limited to 120 children and will be filled on a first come basis. Safety Camp is held at the Boy Scout Camp, located off of Hwy 47. There is a $25 registration fee that includes: two days of adult supervision; activities, supplies, lunches, snacks and beverages; bike helmet and fitting; Safety Camp t -shirt and hat; and a family BBQ and awards ceremony. FREE GUN LOCKS Safe Kids Partners with Project ChildSafe The Anoka County Chapter of MN Safe Kids has partnered with Project ChildSafe in an effort to distribute over 20 million free firearm safety kits that include a gun locking device and key safety messages for parents across the nation. Firearm accidents in the home can result from an unauthorized individual, often a child, finding a loaded and unsecured firearm in the home. The risk of firearms, including related unintentional injuries or deaths, can be reduced when firearms owners are aware of and fully understand their responsibility to handle firearms safely and store them in a secure manner. The goal of Project ChildSafe is to inform and educate all firearms owners on safety issues and to provide kits that include a gun lock. To receive your free safety kit and gun lock, stop by the Ramsey Police Department during normal business hours. We've all seen or read too many heartbreaking stories about children finding unlocked guns in their homes and using them as toys — with tragic consequences. An unlocked gun is an invitation to tragedy. Please take advantage of this opportunity to lock up all firearms by stopping by to receive yours. I've learned . . .
