The major materials collected
in Ramsey's curbside recycling program are: Corrugated
cardboard, newspaper, magazines, junl( mail, office/computer
paper, phone books, plastic bottles with a neck, food and
beverage glass containers (all colors), aluminum, steel, and tin
food and beverage cans, and clothing that is clean, dry and in
good condition.
Preparation of the materials is also very easy. For
any of the containers, simply rinse them out, remove any caps,
rings, or foil (do not need to worry about removing labels), and
place directly into the recycling bin. Recyclable paper products
should be put in a paper bag and can be placed next to or in the
recycling bin. Corrugated cardboard, which is cardboard with
a wavy layer between two smooth sheets, should be flattened
and cut into 3 foot by 3 foot sections and bundled. Finally,
clothing that is clean, dry and in good condition, should be placed
in a clear plastic bag (no larger than 30 gallons) next to the
recycling bin.
Currently, recycling is collected curbside for each half
of the city on alternating Mondays. We have divided the city
into east and west sections along Sunfish Lake Blvd and
Nowthen Blvd. Recycling bins must be placed out in the
boulevard area for collection by 6:30am on the scheduled day
of collection.
If you are unsure of when your next collection date is,
you can check the calendar in the Ramsey Resident, contact
ACE Solid Waste, or contact the City. We also have small
recycling stickers, which can be put on your calendar, available
at City Hall to help remind residents of their collection dates.
There are numerous benefits to recycling. Here are
just a few of them:

· One ton of recycled paper saves 4100 l(wh of energy, which
is enough to power an average home for six (6) months.
· Recycling glass saves 25-32% of the energy needed to
mal(e new glass.
· Recycling plastic saves petroleum, a non-renewable
resource.
· It takes 95% less energy to recycle aluminum than mining
it from bauxite ore.
· It tal(es 75% less energy to recycle steel than to produce
it from iron ore.

If you have any general questions about Ramsey's
recycling program, please contact Chris Anderson at (763)
433-9905. If you have questions about whether a specific
product is accepted for curbside collection, please contact ACE
Solid Waste at 763-427-3110 or by email at
servi ce@acesolidwaste. com.

The Fall Recycling Day was a success with almost
200 vehicles passing through the event.
