9 RAMSEY Y OUTHATHLETIC ASSOCIATION RECEIVES GENEROUS DONATIONS FROM RAMSEY LIONS CLUB The Ramsey Lion's Club presented a $20,000 check to the Ramsey Youth Athletics Association Board of Directors at its May meeting. This donation is in addition to a $6,000 donation already bequeathed to RYAA's soccer program for the purchase of soccer goals once Elmcrest Park begins play in the spring of 2005. In subsequent RYAA Board meetings, the Directors met to discuss how they would distribute the donation dollars. At their September meeting a motion was approved to allocate the Lion's Club donations as follows: . Soccer: Purchase goals for Elmcrest Parl( $6,000 . Baseball: Help offset initial start up costs $5,000 of traveling program . Softball: Purchase batting equipment and $4,500 upgrade equipment . Football: Purchase shoulder pads for the $2,500 7th_8th grade program . Basl(etball: Purchase two portable $1,000 scoreboards . Organizational: Hire a professional $5,000 development service to update RYAA's Website. . Organizational: Purchase a laptop $1,500 computer for RYAA. . Organizational: Purchase scheduling $500 software that can be utilized for all sports for field scheduling $26,000 RYAA President, Kelley Casey stated that, "We can't thank the Ramsey Lion's Club enough for both of these very generous donations. It's not often that a non-profit organization is fortunate enough to receive $26,000 to be used at its discretion. We appreciate the Lion's trust. It's always a tough decision when you have to balance between keeping registration fees affordable, yet still provide safe, up-to-date equipment and programming. There are always needs of the organization that go beyond the field of play in order to maintain a quality program. With the growth of our community since RYAA's inception 25 years ago, we really needed to bring RYAA into the 21 st century. The Lion's Club donation will allow us to mal(e some much needed organizational purchases as well as equipment purchases and upgrades for all sports that would otherwise have made it necessary to increase registration fees. We are fortunate to have the Lion's Club supporting our efforts." Doors open at 5:00 p.m., refreshments will be served at 5 :30 p.m. and the performance of "A Christmas Story" is at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for the evening are $25 each. There are several opportunities to help Andover, Anoka, Ramsey Youth First. You can provide an item that can be used for the silent auction or donate money that can be used to purchase items for a gift basket. You can attend the evening event or you can purchase tickets and give them to family, friends or employees. This would be a nice evening for your card club to enjoy together, or a girls' night out, or your co- workers. Food, fun, a little holiday shopping along with a night at the theatre, but more importantly you are supporting Youth First and the youth in our community.
