FROM RAFFLE WINNER

;. .Jf..'
The Ramsey Rotary, which was officially formed in
January of this past year, held a raffle this past summer for an
ATV and trailer as part of their fund raising efforts for
community projects. The Rotary purchased the ATV from Pro
Sporting Goods and the trailer from M & G Trailer Sales, both
local Ramsey businesses. The drawing for the ATV and trailer
was held at Ramsey's Happy Days celebration on September
18th, 2004. The ATV, valued at $6200, was won by a former
resident of Ramsey, Bob Hughs. Hughs recently sold his home
in Ramsey and moved to his new home in Florida. The ticl(et
was purchased from Rotarian Dr. Tom Anderson, who along
with fellow Rotarian, Ramsey Police Chief Jim Way, are former
neighbors of Hughs. After hearing that Hughs had won the
ATV and knowing that he now lives in Florida, he was contacted
to see if he would be interested in donating the vehicle to the
Ramsey Police Department. Hughs contacted Chief Way by
phone and stated he really had no use for the ATV and would
be more than happy to give it to the Police Department for
their use. He indicated that he was a strong supporter of the
Police Department and he was glad that they had a need for it.
The ATV will be used to patrol parl(s in the summer and for
snowmobile enforcement in the winter. It will also be used at
City functions such as Happy Days, Safety Camp and the Lions
picnic. The Police Department currently has one ATV and
has been borrowing ATV's from the Anoka County Sheriff's
office for events. The Rotary Club was able to net $4500
from ticket sales and also received a $300 factory rebate back
from Polaris. The funds raised from the raffle will be invested
in the local community in various parl(s and youth oriented
projects in Ramsey. The risl( of firearms,
including related unintentional injuries or deaths, can be
reduced when firearms owners are aware of and fully
understand their responsibility to handle firearms safely
and store them in a secure manner. The goal of Project
ChildSafe is to inform and educate all firearms owners
on safety issues and to provide kits that include a gun
lock.
To receive your free safety kit and gun lock,
stop by the Ramsey Police Department during normal
business hours. We've all seen or read too many
heartbrealung stories about children finding unlocked guns
in their homes and using them as toys - with tragic
consequences. An unlocked gun is an invitation to
tragedy. Please tal(e advantage of this opportunity to
lock up all firearms by stopping by to receive yours.

Interesting people are people who are interested.
