The law
initially applied to the Twin Cities seven county metropolitan area, but
was expanded by the legislature in the last session to cover all of
Minnesota.
The following information on the new law will prove valuable
to Ramsey residents:
As of January 1, 2005, fertilizers containing phosphorus cannot
be used on lawns in Minnesota. This is an expansion of the
current law which restricts use of phosphorus in lawn fertilizer
to 0% in the Twin Cities seven county metropolitan area and
up to 3% in Greater Minnesota.
IT IS NOT A BAN. Fertilizers containing phosphorus may be
used on lawns if a soil test indicates that it is needed or if a
new lawn is being established. These restrictions apply only
to lawn fertilizers and do not apply to fertilizers used for
agriculture crops, trees, flower and vegetable gardening, or by
trained staff on golf courses.
F or additional information please visit the Minnesota Department
of Agriculture web site at www.mda.state.mn.us.

*

.

.~
.

7.f'
. \.

.~ .. 7 .

--.

Holiday Tree

Continued from Page 11 ~tL. ...:~n~
This special o:nan:ent, past community ornaments, and antique greeting
cards In the HIstorIcal Society's collection will be displayed at the Anoka
County History Center and Library throughout the month of December.
. .
