14 <br />THE FRENCH <br />CocTIoN! <br />Anoka County's French connection <br />will be only one of the facets of history <br />explored at the Anoka County Historic <br />Society's Annual Meeting on March 5, 2005. <br />The meeting will be held in the historic St. <br />Genevieve's Church at 7087 Goiffon Road <br />in Centerville from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. <br />Reservations are required and may be <br />made by calling the History Center at (763) <br />421 -0600 and using your credit card. ACHS <br />accepts MasterCard and Visa. The cost <br />for the event is $10 for ACHS members <br />and $12 for non - members. <br />In addition to the opportunity to see <br />this historic church, those in attendance will <br />have a time to chat, eat French pastries, <br />play history bingo, and see Meshuggah <br />Nuns, a part of the Nunsense series, <br />performed by Playhouse 15 of St. Francis. <br />Centerville and St. Genevieve's <br />Church have some colorful history that will <br />be shared during the event. The Church of <br />St. Genevieve's was formed in 1854 and <br />just celebrated their sesquicentennial. Their <br />current church building, the fourth they had <br />constructed, just celebrated its centennial. <br />Come and hear more history about St. <br />Genevieve's and its rich history as an Anoka <br />County landmark. One story about Father <br />Goiffon, parish priest from 1861 to 1891, <br />tells of his travel during a snowstorm. Come <br />to find out just how he kept himself warm <br />after he got lost in a snowstorm. <br />The meeting portion will update all <br />present on the current progress and plans <br />of the Anoka County Historical Society. <br />The results of the voting for the board of <br />directors of ACHS will also be announced. <br />This is change from past years in that the <br />new ACHS bylaws require a mailed ballot. <br />This system gives every member a voice in <br />the leadership of ACHS rather than just <br />those in attendance at the annual meeting. <br />For more information or to make <br />reservations, contact the Anoka County <br />Historical Society at 2135 Third Avenue <br />North, Anoka, MN 55303, or call (763) 421- <br />0600. <br />WARM WEATHER <br />Houis AT <br />AN0KA Coui'y <br />HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS <br />WASTE FAcwrrx <br />The Anoka County Household Hazardous Waste Facility will switch <br />to warm weather hours of operation beginning April 1" and running through <br />October 31, 2005. Warm weather hours are Wednesday, 2 p.m. -8 p.m., <br />Friday, 9 a.m. -3 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. -3 p.m. The facility will be closed <br />Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.The household hazardous waste <br />facility is located at 3230 - 101" Avenue NE in Blaine, off Radisson Road. <br />Household hazardous wastes that are accepted include: acids, aerosol <br />cans with product remaining, drain cleaner, driveway sealer, liquid paint, <br />liquid mercury, mercury thermometers, oven cleaner, paint thinner, paint <br />stripper, pesticides, pool chemicals, and wood preservatives. <br />Residents dropping materials off at the site must provide proof of <br />county residency, such as a driver's license. Businesses, organizations, and <br />schools may not bring hazardous waste to the facility. <br />Wastes that are not accepted include ammunition, appliances, <br />batteries, dried paint, electronics, empty containers, fluorescent lamps, medical <br />wastes, radioactive wastes, railroad ties, and tires.
