THE FRENCH
CocTIoN!
Anoka County's French connection
will be only one of the facets of history
explored at the Anoka County Historic
Society's Annual Meeting on March 5, 2005.
The meeting will be held in the historic St.
Genevieve's Church at 7087 Goiffon Road
in Centerville from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Reservations are required and may be
made by calling the History Center at (763)
421 -0600 and using your credit card. ACHS
accepts MasterCard and Visa. The cost
for the event is $10 for ACHS members
and $12 for non - members.
In addition to the opportunity to see
this historic church, those in attendance will
have a time to chat, eat French pastries,
play history bingo, and see Meshuggah
Nuns, a part of the Nunsense series,
performed by Playhouse 15 of St. Francis.
Centerville and St. Genevieve's
Church have some colorful history that will
be shared during the event. The Church of
St. Genevieve's was formed in 1854 and
just celebrated their sesquicentennial. Their
current church building, the fourth they had
constructed, just celebrated its centennial.
Come and hear more history about St.
Genevieve's and its rich history as an Anoka
County landmark. One story about Father
Goiffon, parish priest from 1861 to 1891,
tells of his travel during a snowstorm. Come
to find out just how he kept himself warm
after he got lost in a snowstorm.
The meeting portion will update all
present on the current progress and plans
of the Anoka County Historical Society.
The results of the voting for the board of
directors of ACHS will also be announced.
This is change from past years in that the
new ACHS bylaws require a mailed ballot.
This system gives every member a voice in
the leadership of ACHS rather than just
those in attendance at the annual meeting.
