MANAGING POISON Ivy
IN YARDS, GARDENS AND TRAILS

The City is currently working with several residents that are
dealing with poison ivy on their property. Residents should lmow that
poison ivy is a native plant with a very large range of growth on the
continent. The plant spreads by birds feeding on seeds as well as shallow
root extensions. It does have wildlife value, provides fall color, and is a
shade tolerant natural ground cover. However, its toxicity to humans is
welllmown. Brol(en leaves, stems and roots can release toxic sap onto
clothes, shoes, pets and tools. Alcohol or soap and water are needed to
remove oily sap, merely rinsing with water does not effectively cleanse
the oily sap.
Burning poison ivy is not recommended as inhaling dust and
ash from the smol(e can result in poisoning of the lungs and could require
hospitalization. If you suspect that poison ivy is established on your
property, please visit the City's website at www.ci.ramsey.mn.us to
learn more about poison ivy and how to manage it or contact the City's
Environmental Specialist Bruce Bacon at 763-433-9813.

RAMSEY SENIORS CLUB

The Ramsey Senior Club held their annual picnic on July 6th, at
Central Park, with 32 members present. The weather was beautiful.
Dennis provided outdoor games to play which were enjoyed by those
watching as well as those playing.
The next meeting of the Seniors was held on August 3rd, at
Ramsey City Hall. Thirty-five members, as well as several visitors,
were entertained with music by Julie Boutin. Julie was accompanied
by four generations of her family. Crest View Senior Housing was
present and provided a door prize - which was won by Myron!
The Seniors will meet on September 4th, and will be treated to
lunch by Crest View Senior Housing. We don't have to bring any food!
Crest View will give a presentation on their senior housing plans.

Zola Malamen, President

FREE DOLLARS
INTO SENSE CLASS

Anoka County Extension Service Staff and Dollar Worl(s
Volunteers will present a Free Dollars Into Sense class on Tuesday,
September 20, 10:00 a.m. at the Bunl(er Hills Activities Center (550
Bunker Lake Blvd, Andover) and again at 7:00 p.m. at the Northtown
Library (711 County Rd lONE, Blaine).
