Chairperson Johns wondered if they lost the grant money for the amphitheater because that was
supposed to be done by now.
Civil Engineer II Linton indicated staff is working on this and looking into getting an extension
for the grant or transfer the grant to the Village Square Park.
Commissioner Erickson wondered if they were starting the concept plan now what would be the
schedule for completion.
Civil Engineer II Linton indicated they do not have a date certain yet but he would keep the
Commission updated as they move along. He stated another new project is the Sunfish Lake
Park at Sunfish Lake. They are going to try to develop Sunfish Lake in 2007 -2008.
Commissioner Lehman wondered if there has been any decision as to where the skateboard park
will be.
Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood stated this has been on the Commission docket for a while
and has been put on the back burner while they have developed Town Center. He thought they
needed to keep it close to next years funding but be able to slide it off for another year to see
where a skateboard park would fit in the City. He stated some of the equipment could be bought
and used at an interim location for a couple years until a permanent area is found.
Chairperson Johns stated she would rather do something on an interim basis at another park
instead of pushing if further back. She would like to see this done in 2007. She would
recommend Central Park because they get a lot of activity at that park.
Commissioner Hansen agreed because there is a large parking lot at Central Park. He thought
every other community seems to have a skateboard park except for them.
Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood thought if the $75,000 is approved by the Council for a
skateboard park, some of the expenditure would need to be used for paving a hockey rink at
Central Park for this.
Commissioner Lehman wondered if there is a problem with paving a hockey rink.
Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood stated he did not see a problem with creating ice over a
bituminous surface and they may actually see roller hockey in the summer at the rink.
Commissioner Hansen wondered if they could pave both rinks and have one for a skateboard
park and one for roller blade hockey.
Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood indicated they could eventually do this.
Chairperson Johns stated she would like to eventually see a swimming pool at North Commons
on the list and start planning for that.
Park and Recreation Commission/November 9, 2006
Page 4 of 8
