Anoka County <br />ADMINISTRATION <br />Communications <br />June 16, 2026 <br />Contact: Erik Thorson, Chief Communications Officer, 763-324-4612, or e-mail: <br />Erik.Thorson@anokacountymn.gov <br />FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br />Anoka County Commissioners Applaud Inclusion of S. 2309 in Veterans Legislation <br />The Anoka County Board of Commissioners Friday expressed its strong support for the <br />inclusion of S. 2309 in the Take Care ofAmerica's Veterans Act, calling the measure an important <br />step toward improving services for veterans' families while helping local governments and federal <br />agencies better coordinate during difficult times. <br />As one of Minnesota's largest counties and home to thousands of veterans and military <br />families, Anoka County understands firsthand the challenges families face following the loss of a <br />loved one who served our nation. <br />Veterans' families should never have to navigate unnecessary government hurdles while <br />grieving the loss of a spouse, parent, or family member. We are grateful to House and Senate <br />leadership for recognizing this issue and including S. 2309 in this important veterans package. <br />The legislation would help ensure that the Department of Veterans Affairs receives timely <br />notification when a veteran passes away, improving coordination among government agencies and <br />reducing delays that can create additional stress for surviving family members. <br />Local governments are often among the first entities to interact with families following a <br />death and understand how important efficient government processes can be during such a difficult <br />time. Families deserve a government that works together, communicates effectively, and responds <br />with compassion.
