Written responses to public survey - In your opinion, what is the most urgent
housing need in the City of Ramsey?

o Remove the blight, esp. on Hwy 10, prevent future blight in existing neighborhoods.
Avoid over building, don't become another Woodbury.
o Keep private property private - not mixing high density housing with acreage lots.
Keeping townhoues near Town Center - business area- industrial area. Holding the
raising of property taxes.
o More retail businesses. Wireless internet availability. More parks.
o Less expensive Single family homes
o I just moved into Riverbends Apartments, the only apts. that I would live in Ramsey.
I also looked at Coon Rapids & Maple Grove. I am age 59 & graduated from Anoka.
I picked this bldg. because of elevator, oversized apts., underground heated garage,
city utilities & retail near by. I was working at Van Maer in Eden Prairie and I am
right on 169. This place needs repair also. I did not need to pay for tennis courts,
party room, pool. At this point I am looking for safety, convenience & peace of
mind. My whole family lives in Ramsey & did not even know these apartments were
here.
o Expansion of services - retail, jobs, parks & expansion of affordable housing (non-
rental) to be able to compete with neighboring cities.
o Stop the townhouses - way too many keep low income out - too many problems
o Need more green space and slow the development - taking over wetlands
o Maintain attractiveness of neighborhoods to support property values
o I believe more start-up single family homes are needed. I also feel that some
neighborhoods (Dysprosium) get cleaned up.
o Require parks & walking paths for all new developments
o Get road infrastructure updated to handle the increase in traffic created by more
housing. -
oWe love walking on trails so we'd like more of these in & around all neighborhoods.
Also, because we're a growing family, more houses with 3 bedrooms upstairs is what
we're hoping for. But we don't want to be on top of our neighbors, so we'd appreciate
more new neighborhoods with larger, affordable lots.
o Over all Poorly worded survey!
o Clean up the junk in the city - time for a nice renovation of Ramsey
o Rental is NOT important. Senior units would be nice. Upscale single family
important.
oWe would like to see less townhomes and more single family homes.
o The creation of neighborhoods with parks, walkways, etc. A development trend in
housing that would foster community participation instead of just a place to go to
sleep
o Quit building - roads unable to meet the commuting needs of current residents
o Affordable housing in neighborhoods with parks for families with young children.
No more townhomes.
o More single family homes. The process of building $175,000 townhomes next to
350,000 - $500,000 homes doesn't sit well with me or my neighbors. A diverse city is
what everybody wants but keep housing and rental units apart - not throw them

5
