Anoka County
TRANSPORTATION DIVISION
Highway
July 9, 2026
Bruce Westby, Public Works Director
City of Ramsey
7550 Sunwood Drive NW
Ramsey, MN 55303
Re: Request for Support — CSAH 57/Sunfish Lake Blvd & Sunwood Drive HSIP Safety
Project (SFY 2030-2031)
Dear Mr. Westby,
Anoka County is preparing an application for MnDOT's 2026 Highway Safety
Improvement Program (HSIP) to fund safety improvements at the CSAH 57 (Sunfish
Lake Blvd) & Sunwood Drive intersection for State Fiscal Years 2030-2031. We are
reaching out to request the City of Ramsey's support.
The project includes construction of a single -lane roundabout along with pedestrian
crossing and sidewalk/trail connectivity improvements. These upgrades will help
reduce crashes, calm vehicle speeds, and improve safety for people walking and
biking near Sunwood Drive and surrounding neighborhoods.
If awarded HSIP funding, the project will be added to Anoka County's Highway
Improvement Plan for the year allocated. At that time, the County and City would
work together to develop a joint powers agreement outlining cost participation,
coordination roles, and long-term maintenance responsibilities.
We value the City of Ramsey's involvement and support in improving this intersection.
Demonstrated coordination strengthens the competitiveness of HSIP applications and
highlights our shared commitment to community safety.
We respectfully request a Letter of Support from the City acknowledging the project
and supporting Anoka County's HSIP application. We're happy to provide draft
language or connect to discuss the project further.
Thank you for your continued partnership. We look forward to working together on
this important safety improvement.
Sincerely,
Jorgd"R.
