Community Development Director Hanson presented the introduction of Ordinance #26-09,
amending the City's zoning code regarding private trees in new development areas.

Community Development Director Hanson explained that the amendment resulted from a
previously approved variance that allowed an alternative method for completing the required tree
inventories. The proposed ordinance authorizes the Community Development Department, acting
as Zoning Administrator, to approve alternative methods for collecting significant tree inventory
data. The amendment also clarifies that trees affected by emerald ash borer, oak wilt, or Dutch elm
disease may be excluded from certain tree preservation threshold calculations. She noted that both
the Environmental Policy Board and Planning Commission recommended approval of the
ordinance, and the City Attorney reported no legal concerns.

Motion by Councilmember Peters, seconded by Councilmember Riley, to introduce Ordinance
#26-09 amending Chapter 106 (Zoning Code).

Motion carried.
