<br />CASE # 1 <br /> <br />COST OF DOING BUSINESS IN RAMSEY (presentation) <br />By: Sean Sullivan, Economic Development Coordinator <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />Dennis Sharp, of Sharp and Associates, LLC will be at the meeting to make a presentation and to <br />prompt discussion about the cost of doing business in Ramsey. Mr. Sharp has compiled some <br />interesting information that compares two very similar buildings and their associated costs (see <br />attached). Staff feels that it is important to get an outside perspective on City costs and the <br />impact on business decisions. <br /> <br />Observations: <br />A cursory look at the information shows that there are more fees and higher charges in Ramsey <br />and that the increase in market value is driving the property tax amounts higher. The fact that <br />businesses apparently are leaving Ramsey and moving to other communities is worth exploring. <br />There could be other circumstances that are driving this including, poor transportation corridors <br />and lack of appropriate space, but the numbers that Mr. Sharp has provided help create a strong <br />argument as to why businesses could be leaving.
