FC CASE

ADOPT PROPOSED 1998-2003
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
By: Diana Lund Finance Officer

Background:

Each year City Council considers an update to the list of capital projects proposed for completion
over the next six years. The resulting Capital Improvements Program (CIP) will direct City staff
to begin project planning and, in some cases, design for projects within the plan.

Council has been presented with the 1998-2003 CIP document during two prior worksessions. It
was during the first worksession that they requested that the CIP format be changed. These
changes were documented in a completely new format, which was presented at a second Council
worksession. No other changes were noted, or requested at this time.

The 1998-2003 CIP is not significantly different from CIP's you have reviewed and approved in
recent years, except for the layout of the material. As always, there are changes to cost
projections as new information provides better cost estimates in those numbers. The park
improvement portion of the CIP was presented to the Park Commission in 1997, and those
projects are included again in this document.

Before staff can move forward and begin preparation of the 1999-2004 CIP (whose process
begins in the immediate future), the 1998-2003 CIP has to be adopted.

Council Action:

Motion to recommend Council adopt the Proposed 1998-2003 Capital Improvement Program

Reviewed by:

City Administrator
Finance Officer

FC: 6/23/98
