Councilmembers Kurak and Pearson stated that they approved of the concept for Alpine Park.
Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos stated that he will work in partnership with Regina Flanagan and
an artist who has designed other park equipment/features before.
Councilmember Kurak questioned if there were any copyright issues in using some of the park
designs in the idea book presented by Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos.
Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos stated that there should not be any copyright issues. He stated
that he envisions the park being a combination of unique pieces as well as copied items.
Motion by Commissioner Ostrum, seconded by Commissioner Olds to recommend the City
Council approve up to $20,000 from the Park Trust Fund, to cover design and incurred expenses
for the preliminary planning of Alpine Park.
Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Johns, Commissioner Ostrum, Olds, LaMere,
Lehman, and Shryock. Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioner Rolfe.
COMMISSION/STAFF INPUT
Town Center
Chairperson Johns reminded the Commission of the upcoming meetings regarding the Town
Center on June 25, 2003. She stated that work session meeting will be at 6:00 p.m. and the
actual Town Center meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held in the Fire Station
Conference Room.
Commissioner Olds questioned when additional joint meetings with the Council could be held.
City Administrator Norman stated that meeting more than once a year really would not be
possible to schedule.
Councilmember Kurak stated that if she were informed of the Park and Recreation meetings, she
would be happy to attend more.
Councilmember Pearson stated that he would be interested in attending meetings related to the
Town Center.
Councilmember Elvig stated that he supported trying to schedule more joint meetings because
the City was facing decisions regarding the Comprehensive Plan with regard to green space and
he would like to "get ahead" of development and felt that decisions should be made in
conjunction with the Park and Recreation Commission.
Chairperson Johns stated that perhaps there didn't need to be more formal joint meetings but
Councilmembers could be invited to attend future Park and Recreation meetings to provide their
input.
Park and Recreation Commission/June 12, 2003
Page 7 of 9
