Councilmember Kurak stated that she is willing to attend more meetings as she is very interested in parks. Commissioner Shyrock stated that she is also willing to attend City Council work sessions to provide input from a Park and Recreation perspective. Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCMR) Grant Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos explained the history of the protected land along the Trott Brook Trail. He stated that there was a presentation made in June 2002 to the LCMR for funds to construct a trail system. This trail system, when complete, would provide one circuitous loop of trailways throughout the City. Commissioner Ostrum left the meeting at 7:45 p.m. Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos stated that the LCMR supported the project because it would link together a 108-mile trail route through this part of the State. He stated that they authorized 2 million dollars which now has been reduced to $500,000 that can be used for land acquisition. The Commission discussed ways of acquiring land by purchase and/or by land dedication from property owners. Councilmember Pearson questioned whether the trails would be paved. Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos stated that they would be paved. The Commission discussed ways to earmark incoming parkland dedication funds for the Trott Brook area. The Commission discussed the possibility of receiving additional funding from the State for this project. Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos stated that he felt that people who have successfully utilized the LCMR funds allocated to them will be considered for additional funds in the future. He stated that the $500,000 will not be released until July 1, 2003. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Commissioner Olds, seconded by Commissioner Shryock, to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
