<br />ParkslUtilities Supervisor Riverblood indicated he was not aware of any distinction there, but he <br />did not think it would be much different than other materials. He stated they could have <br />organized activities for the skate parks, demonstrations, lessons or camps. They could also rent it <br />out to private parties and school groups. <br /> <br />Commissioner Hansen wondered how they would go about getting waivers signed. <br /> <br />ParkslUtilities Supervisor Riverblood stated in Tier One they do not need to have a waiver <br />signed. They would post signs indicating safety equipment is strongly suggested. <br /> <br />Chairperson Johns stated skateboarding has become safer with new innovations and if they can <br />do their part of getting kids out of parking lots and into a skate park would be helpful. <br /> <br />Commissioner Hansen thought they could post a sign requiring a helmet even in a Tier One <br />Skate Park. <br /> <br />ParkslUtilities Supervisor Riverblood stated they.could look into this to see what the liabilities <br />issues would be. ' <br /> <br />Chairperson Johns thought parents may be able to regulate the equipment rather than leaving it <br />up to the City. <br /> <br />ParkslUtilities Supervisor Riverblood stated many of the younger kids going to the skate park <br />have parents with them to monitor and make sure there are not any problems. <br /> <br />Consensuses of the Commission was to research facilities and for staff to identify an interim <br />skate park sites until a permanent one can be designed. <br /> <br />Commissioner LaMere thought staff could check with other cities that have skate parks to find <br />out what problems and benefits they have had and to bring it back to the Commission. <br /> <br />Chairperson Johns stated she would like to see a few meetings with youth groups to get their <br />input. <br /> <br />ParkslUtilities Supervisor Riverblood stated there may be' an opportunity to get the youth <br />involved in fund raising for the skate park. <br /> <br />Commissioner Hansen wondered if they could find a sponsor to put their name on the skateboard <br />park for a donation. <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Commission/January 11, 2007 <br />Page 3 of 5 <br />
