During 1983 property
taxes were 40.9% of total revenues. This percentage is closer to
the 44.5% shown for 1985.
Total expenditures in the operating funds amounted to $1,504,275
as compared to $1,583,929 in 1984. This represents a 5.0%
decrease. The primary cause of this decrease is public works
equipment and data processing equipment purchased during 1984.
Below is a comparison of the operating fund expenditures for the
years 1984 and 1985.
Expenditure function
General government
Public safety
Public works
Culture and recreation
Conservation of
natural resources
Miscellaneous
Other financing uses
Total Expenditures and
Other Financing Uses
1984 1985
Percent
Amount of Total
Percent
Amount of Total
$ 573,427
421,740
274,055
129,780
2,855
140,377
41,695
36.2%
26.6%
17.3%
8.2%
.2%
8.9%
2.6%
$1,583,929 100.0%
$ 484,505 32.3%
492,508 32.7%
223,095 14.8%
128,090 8.5%
2,785 .2%
114,556 7.6%
58,736 3.9%
$1,504,275 100.0%
========== =====
The decrease in general government expenditures is due to capital
outlay during 1984 for the initial purchase of computer hardware
and software.
Increases in public safety expenditures are for an additional
patrol officer, increased fire protection costs and a contracted
building inspector.
-10-
