<br />Member Strommen indicated the EDA's involvement in Town Center needs to be directed by the <br />Council. This could likely occur by the next EDA meeting. <br /> <br />Motion by Member Strommen, seconded by Member Elvig, to approve the 2007 EDA Work <br />Plan, and to direct the Economic Development Coordinator to present the Plan to Council with <br />the following changes: <br /> <br />Marketing <br />~ Ramsey Town Center marketing/coordination <br /> <br />Miscellaneous <br />~ Broaden focus to include commercial/retail development <br /> <br />Further discussion: Member Elvig suggested the marketing of Town Center may need to shift to <br />the EDA, as opposed to expenditures of a private outsource. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Riley, Members Strommen, Elvig, LeTourneau, <br />Schindel, and Steffen. Voting No: None. Absent: Member Kiefer. <br /> <br />Member Elvig suggested a presentation regarding this topic be made to Council at a work <br />session by Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan and a couple members of the EDA. <br />The EDA should work on a case first to be prepared for the work session. <br /> <br />Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan indicated there are two Council meetings prior to <br />the next EDA meeting in February. If direction comes from the Council he will prepare a case <br />for the next EDA meeting. <br /> <br />Member Schindel clarified the redevelopment portion of Ramsey Crossings is being facilitated <br />by the HRA. <br /> <br />Member Strommen left the meeting at 8:34 a.m. <br /> <br />Case #5: <br /> <br />Staff Update (prior to Ramsey3) <br /> <br />The EDA reviewed the Staff Update. <br /> <br />2/3 Size Hockey Rinks <br /> <br />Economic Development Coordinator Sullivan noted staff has received inquiries about locating a <br />2/3 hockey rink and training facility in Ramsey. Sites of interest include Diamonds Sports Bar <br />and other lots in industrial parks. Mr. Sullivan advised it is his opinion the goal in industrial <br />areas is to create high quality jobs and tax base, and when a decision is needed the EDA should <br />fall on the side of business. <br /> <br />Member Schindel inquired about the economic impact of hockey rinks on the City. Economic <br />Development Coordinator Sullivan indicated a hockey rink will bring people into the <br />community, but with the 2/3 rink size it is an unknown. This would be more of a training facility <br />than an event center. It was expressed that the facility would be used by younger players on the <br /> <br />Economic Development Authority/January 11, 2007 <br />Page 7 of 11 <br />
