Only four respondents were in any way negative
towards the Peltzer Park redevelopment. Mr. Boos reviewed the results of the survey and the park
improvements indicated as desirable. The top play events by order of priority are slides, swings,
bridges, climber, and tunnels. He noted that wood ranked higher as a choice of material and bright
colors also received the most positive responses. Mr. Boos pointed out the comment that the park
would be used more often if improved as being proposed. He stated that overall, residents were
excited about the playground improvements and it seems they are slightly less inclined to respond if
they think the Commission is doing a good job. Mr. Boos noted the survey received a favorable
response of 18% and of those, the majority were in favor of park development, which he believes
indicates residents think what is being proposed is a good plan.

Mr. Boos reviewed a site plan of the park noting the Iow and high elevation points, areas of trees,
possible location of play equipment, trail alignment, and parking areas. He noted there is not a lot
of changes to the park plan except for the playground equipment improvements. Mr. Boos pointed
out high visibility areas which would be appropriate for native grasses and flowers (which was high
priority of survey respondents).

Chairperson Cook asked if the plant materials are included on the list. Mr. Boos explained he did not
include the plant list and suggested some tree cover be added to the southwest border.

Chairperson Cook asked if the Commission should determine the play equipment to be included in
the park. Mr. Boos stated they should determine, to what extent, the park plan meets the desires

Park and Recreation Commission/March 12, 1998
Page 2 of 9
