relative to survey responses. Chairperson Cook noted residents want a wooden structure of bright
colors with the play events indicated by Mr. Boos.

Mr. Boos noted that a playground vendor, different than the representative who attended the previous
meeting had indicated the benefit of the wooden structure was ease of installation so that could be
a cost-saving measure. He reviewed the structure in Solstice Park as comparable to what is proposed
in the draft budget. Mr. Boos suggested a proposal be prepared with a not-to-exceed dollar amount
and indication of the equipment that is being required, at a minimum. Then the proposals will be
ranked by the Commission and one selected. He reviewed the proposed budget for this park and
items included.

Discussion occurred with regard to which items to include in the request for proposal. Commissioner
Droegemueller stated the ground space does not lend itself to including a structure and noted that
Alpine Park will probably, in the future, contain a shelter. Mr. Boos noted the survey comment
suggesting the money be put into Alpine Park, which responds to that suggestion.

Chairperson Cook concurred and noted that a shelter could be added, if desired, in the future. He
suggested this project improves the park and will increase usage -- thus building a need for a shelter.

Commissioner Droegemueller suggested gearing this park toward the four to ten years-of-age
bracket since the park will be used by younger children who are not yet mobile and able to get to
other parks. He stated he would like to consider the top five play events plus a track rider which is
a unique play event that is not available at other Ramsey parks.

Commissioner LaMere concurred with including the track rider and suggested it be considered as an
option.

Due to the high cost of the track rider play event, Mr. Boos suggested two proposal options be
requested with the not-to-exceed amount, one including the track rider and the other not including
it.

Chairperson Cook stated he has had good experience with wood structures even though they may
involve a little more maintenance.

Commissioner Droegemueller stated his preference for more natural colors as opposed to brightly
colored panels, especially when considering adding natural grasses. He questioned what they are
really asking for.

Chairperson Cook concurred and stated he prefers greens, browns, and natural colors as well.
However, the park should appeal to the younger children who use it, not necessarily the parents.

Mr. Boos noted that a green panel may appear brightly colored when compared to the wooden
structure.

Park and Recreation Commission/March 12, 1998
Page 3 of 9
