Acting Chair Johns agreed, stating that, besides EDA, alternative funding sources should be <br />considered. <br /> <br />Mr. Lacey stated there are other trail links being looked at. He then asked if these links are <br />priorities when they are connected only to small parks. <br /> <br />Acting Chair Johns replied that yes, these links are important as they connect to schools and <br />shopping areas, as well as parks. <br /> <br />Commissioner Droegemueller added that the progress of these trails should continue so as not to <br />be delayed any further. He said that these links are side benefits of small parks, and that the main <br />goal of these trails is that ora meaningful walk or fide. <br /> <br />Acting Chair Johns stated that community parks should be linked together. <br /> <br />Commissioner LaMere agreed, stating that Sunwood up to Alpine needs to be linked, especially <br />during the coming baseball season. <br /> <br />Commissioner Droegemueller added that this area is presently disjointed and not safe. <br /> <br />Commissioner LaMere said that he traveled along Sunfish and that, due to the high traffic speeds, <br />even the pedestrian shoulder areas were dangerous. <br /> <br />Commissioner Droegemueller asked if the Commission is to recommend approval of the draft <br />C.I.P. at this meeting. <br /> <br />Acting Chair Johns replied that only modifications to the draft through 1999 are to be approved. <br />Commissioner Droegemueller asked if the tennis court proposal was moved out to 1999. <br />Acting Chair Johns replied that it was pushed ahead from 1998. <br /> <br />Dean Kapler, Director of Public Works, arrived at 6:20 p.m. <br /> <br />Acting Chair Johns asked Mr. Kapler for a status update on the 35-acre land acquisition. <br /> <br />Mr. Kapler stated that he and Mark Boos, Utilities Supervisor, met with the landowner, and <br />discussed a land swap for City property. Mr. Kapler added that the seller is willing to deal and is <br />open to suggestions about Central Park. <br /> <br />Acting Chair Johns asked for an update on the 83-acre land acquisition. <br /> <br />Mr. Kapler replied that he has had trouble contacting this land owner, but has left him messages <br />stating it is imperative that they meet and negotiate the purchase as soon as possible. <br /> <br /> Park and Recreation Commission/July 9, 1998 <br /> Page 3 of 12 <br /> <br /> <br />
