For the next two years should more development be given to developing a significant natural
resource based trail or should the focm be on completing connections to existing de~tination~
as in the case of Ramsey's urban area? (47 surveys supported significant natural resource
based trail, 56 surveys supported developing more connection oriented urban trails, 47
surveys supported both, 10 surveys supported neither)
Please list any additional comments about Ramsey's trails system, now or for the future.
(Mostly positive comments)
Would you like to sign up to be friends of the mailer (75 people left their names and
addresses)

Mr. Manuel thanked the City for the opportunity to conduct this survey.

Acting Chairperson LaMere thanked Mr. Manuel for his work on this survey and the data gathered
which the City will find very valuable.

Commissioner Droegemueller asked if all the trails will be marked for non-motorized use. Mr. Laeey
indicated this will be done. He commented on the difficulty experienced in controlling snowmobile
use of the trails.

Mr. Kapler asked if Mr. Manuel would be willing to leave his display boards at the City Hall so they
can be displayed. Mr. Manuel indicated he would.

Acting Chairperson LaMere recommended the Commission review this survey data and then discuss
possible use of the data collected at the next meeting. It was noted that staff had suggested the
Commission discuss items or issues of interest for a mailer.

Commissioner Droegemueller stated most people may not know what the City envisions as a
"natural" trail as opposed to a "regular" trail. He stated ifa newsletter for "Friends of Ramsey Trails"
is put together, that may be a good place to discuss the Trott Brook Trail which is a natural setting.

Commissioner Johns noted that one person answering the survey requested a map of the trails and,
perhaps, that would be a beneficial first mailing to those who left their names and addresses.

Commissioner Droegemueller asked if this should be part of the Ramsey Resident. Commissioner
Rolfe asked if there isn't already an article in each of the Ramsey Resident newsletters.
Commissioner Ostrum stated articles are in most of the Ramsey Resident newsletters but one was not
included in the most recent issue.

Acting Chairperson LaMere stated he also supports a separate ma'ding to each person who left their
name and address as suggested by Commissioner Johns.

Commissioner Johns offered to make colored copies of the maps with a reimbursement from the City.

Commissioner Ostmm suggested the City send those residents a thank you letter and include a park
trail map.

Park and Recreation Commission/November 12, 1998
Page 2t of 7
