Commissioner Droegemueller concurred and advised of the positive comments and fantastic
compliments he also receives about the City's parks.

Acting Chairperson Johns noted the Commission has not heard any complaints about dandelions this
year, as they had heard in the past.

Commissioner Droegemueller reported on the positive comments he received about Alpine Park
which is not even completed at this point. He extended his personal appreciation to park staff for
their hard work.

The entire Park and Recreation Commission concurred and added their appreciation.

Mr. Lacey commented on the beneficial feature of having mile markers on the trail which would also
be a low-cost item. Commissioner Rolfe suggested this be further discussed. The Park and
Recreation Commission agreed.

COMMISSION/STAFF INPUT

Mayor Gamec stated the Council has been more aware of what is going on with the parks and they
have met with the various athletic associations to see if some of the little things, like providing
bathrooms during soccer games, could be resolved. He noted that there were much fewer complaints
received this year as well.

With regard to the level of park staff, Mayor Gamec stated the Council knows there is a need for an
adequate staff level to assure the parks being developed can be properly maintained. Mayor Gamec
stated there are some "dead" times during the year for park staff so the Council supports moving that
staff person to roads when needed. He stated he also watched the seasonal workers this year and
complimented them for their hard work.

Mayor Gamec stated they are also trying to address issues early in the season and even contacted the
high school to see if they had anyone available. Another consideration is the financial issue and how
many hours can be worked by part-time employees. He stated he has learned a lot about park issues
and believes part-time help will be an important factor in maintaining the City's increasing level of
parkland.

Mayor Gamec stated he has received comments supporting adult activities and use of park buildings
during the winter months as well. Another issue that has been raised is the need for more indoor
storage space for the various community organizations. Mayor Gamec stated he found the park
maintenance level is far superior to prior years and indicated he will be meeting again with the RYAA.

Commissioner Droegemueller reviewed the activity from the last RYAA meeting.

Mayor Gamec suggested a joint meeting between the RYAA and the Park and Recreation
Commission to discuss their various programs and how they can be better coordinated with the City.
He advised that RYAA and the soccer program involve 1,400 participants which is great growth over

Park and Recreation Commission/November 12, 1998
Page 6 of 7
