Case #4: 15-Minute Video Presentation on the "Value of Parks and Recreation"

Chairperson Cook presented a video entitled "Value of Parks and Recreation" and reported on a
seminar he attended. He stated that this seminar explained that research shows the benefits of area
parks are endless. They have looked at economical and environmental benefits leading to a reduction
in crime. Chairperson Cook informed the Commission that he would like to change the mind set of
people and put more money into parks and less into the police.

(Ostrum was excused from the meeting at 7:03 p.m.)

The Commission viewed the video and requested that it be played on cable due to the fact that the
Cable Commission was not present to tape the meeting. Chairperson Cook stated that he would
check into this and would like to see the Council review this tape, as well.

The consensus of the Commission was a "looped" copy of the tape should be made and shown at the
Tree Sale/Expo.

COMMISSION/STAFF INPUT

There was nothing at this time.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Commissioner Rol£e and seconded by Commissioner Asfahl to adjourn the meeting.

Motion carded.
