directed that paving of this segment of street be added to the program for street improvements
scheduled for the summer of 2006. Bids were opened in July 2006 for paving this segment of
street. The cost was $45,419 which was considerably higher than the $26,000 estimated and the
project was not awarded, but was to be reconsidered at a later date. Staff recommends that the
PlR fund not be reduced any further at this time to fund this project but be included in the 2008
through 2012 Capital1mprovement Program to determine the appropriate project date.

Motion to recommend to City Council that the paving of 160th Lane not be constructed in 2006
and that it be added to the 2008 through 2012 Capital hnprovement Program to determine the
appropriate project date.

Action:

Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Conunittee.

ease #5

Parking Ramp Safety eoncern

Background:

The snow disposal chute is located in the southwest comer of the ramp and has openings on the
top of the ramp as well as on the third level. At street level there is an opening facing Civic
Center Drive large enough to allow tandem axle trucks to enter beneath the chute and be loaded.
This truck access is secured by two large doors. It has been brought to the attention of staff that a
safety issue may exist in that the openings could allow an inattentive bicyclist to crash and
project over the wall and into the snow chute. There are sloping concrete baffles designed to
break the fall of deposited snow. These baffles would prevent a direct fall to the bottom

Consensus of the Committee was to direct staff to pursue the costs of a panic bar being installed
on the door and the installation of a grate cover.

Action:

Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee. -

eOMMlTTEEINPUT

Reviewed by:
Public Works Director/Principal City Engineer
City Engineer

ee: 04/10/07

-155-
