Community Action Program $2,920 <br /> <br />Citizen Input <br /> <br />Tia Henry-Johnson, representing CEAP (Community Emergency Assistance Program, Inc.) <br />requested $3,000 to aid in administering their programs. CEAP has been in Anoka County for <br />ten and one-half years and they assist families with shelter needs - paying rent, house payments, <br />etc., in times of crisis. They also assist with transportation and food needs. CEAP served about <br />425 families through the end of December 1997. <br /> <br />Lynn Nore, representing Rise, requested funding in the amount of $3,000. The request is to help <br />purchase capital equipment and other items needed for a start-up program in Anoka. The <br />program serves people with severe and/or multiple disabilities. Rise has about 35 graduates in <br />Anoka County every year. <br /> <br />Marianne Reich, Director of Arc of Anoka and Ramsey Counties, requested assistance in the <br />amount of $1,500. Arc provides core support and advocacy services to individuals with <br />developmental disabilities and their families. The funds would be spent on the Toy and Adaptive <br />Equipment Lending Library. Approximately 50 people from the City of Ramsey use Arc <br />services. <br /> <br />Erika Gilbertson, representing the Northwest Suburban Kinship Program, requested funding in <br />the amount of $2,500. One of the goals of this program is to help parents interact with children - <br />spending quality time. There are 45 children (aged three to seventeen) on the waiting list for <br />mentors. Time is strictly on a volunteer basis, the money is spent on things for the children (e.g., <br />supplies for crafts, baking, etc.). <br /> <br />Maggi Novak, Director for North Anoka Meals on Wheels, requested $3,733. The program <br />serves primarily seniors and also handicapped non-seniors, one nutritionally balanced meal per <br />day. She noted that 21 Ramsey residents were served last year. <br /> <br />Kathy Weidemann, representing ACCAP - Senior Outreach, requested $2,920. They assist <br />seniors and disabled adults in finding programs to help them, including taking care of the <br />paperwork. Their goal is to prevent premature nursing home entries. Senior Outreach helped 35 <br />people in Ramsey last year - with 61 referrals made to 28 different programs. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated he would like to see some CDBG funds used to refurbish the senior's area <br />in the lower level of City Hall. <br /> <br />Amie, representing the Father's Resource Center, requested assistance in the amount of $4,000. <br />His program deals with parenting classes, support groups, anger counseling and family law. The <br />funding would go toward on-going parenting classes and would pay the one day per week of the <br /> <br />City Council/January 13, 1998 <br /> Page 5 of 14 <br /> <br /> <br />
