The City received a couple of
letters from residents - some requesting a cul-de-sac, some requesting speed bumps, and some
requesting speed bumps and stop signs. One of the problems is cost. We would have to hold a
public hearing to assess a project. Residents could receive an assessment of $313 to $535. A
cul-de-sac costs anywhere from $12,000 to $25,000. Assessing would be only for the people on
149th Avenue and the cost would be between $800 and $1,700. There are problems, other than
cost, with a cul-de-sac, such as problems for emergency vehicles, etc. Mr. Jankowski reported
that the phone calls he received were from people who did not want to pay for an assessment.

City Council/April 14, 1998
