who started a business when Ramsey was a township. She commented that racism and bigotry is
never a good thing and the celebration could include these issues as a teaching aid to the City's
children. She suggested the Council consider a budget for this event and that a planning
committee be appointed. Councilmember Haas Steffen also suggested the Ramsey Lions could
schedule their yearly celebration at the same time. She commented that Ramsey should celebrate
being 25 years old and added that we have an exciting future ahead of us.

City Administrator Norman noted the weekly update which mentions a celebration and was
brought to the City's attention by an editor from the Anoka Union.

Mayor Gamec stated this would be a good idea and could, perhaps, include the community picnic.

Councilmember Haas Steffen suggested a timing for late August or the first part of September and
that an announcement of the Senior Center or its dedication be incorporated into the festivities as
well as an announcement of the expansion of City Hall or development of a Community Center.
She commented on the prominent citizens of Ramsey which could be showcased.

Mayor Gamec suggested this be discussed in more detail at the next Council work session
meeting and encouraged those in the audience or viewing cable television who are interested in
this topic to contact the City Hall. He suggested that the celebration also include a fireworks
display from the landfill.

Mayor Gamec commented on the recent fire at the propane business in Ramsey which gained
media coverage. He read the letter from Fire ChiefKapler commenting on the valuable role of the
Ramsey Fire Department, Administrative Services who answered telephone calls and relayed
accurate information to residents calling in, and the law enforcement group for the help they
called in, their efforts in keeping the scene secure and for successfully re-routing traffic on the
busy holiday weekend. It was noted that an employee of the gas company was severely burned.
Mayor Gamec extended Fire ChiefKapler's formal gratitude to all involved.

Mayor Gamec stated he was near the scene of this fire and saw there was a good response from
several fire departments who worked well together. He advised that the cities of Dayton, Rogers,
Anoka, Elk River, and Andover all responded and action took place very quickly with Highway
#10 being shut off within ten minutes and traffic rerouted. He complimented all forces involved in
this effort and extended his appreciation for those who kept him informed of what was taking
place.

There was no other Citizen Input.

APPROVE AGENDA

City Administrator Norman requested an addition to the agenda, under Council Input, to discuss
scheduling a Council Work Session.

City Attorney Goodrich recommended that an attorney/client closed meeting be scheduled tonight
following adjournment of the regular Council meeting to discuss Kurak land condemnation related

City Council/July 14, 1998
