Public Notice

~

Outdoor Warning Sirens

Warning sirens are the most effective method of warning the population at large about dangerous conditions.
People may be outdoors at ball games or in their yard where they are not in contact with media outlets such as radio, TV
or local public address systems. One common misconceptions about warning sirens is that they will alert the public to
dangerous conditions, even when indoors. While some people may live close enough to hear the sirens indoors, this is
not the intended purpose. These sirens are designed to advise people who are outside that a hazardous condition exists or
is approaching. Newer structures are insulated better and are more lil(ely to keep sound out and sirens cannot be made
louder to penetrate buildings because doing so would pose a danger to the hearing of people who are outdoors. A battery
operated radio or TV is the best way to stay advised of possible dangerous conditions when indoors.
Sirens in Anoka County are tested on the first Wednesday of each month at 1 :00 p.m. The first test is comprised
of a steady signal for approximately one minute. A second test follows, which consists of a series of short blasts or a
wavering (warbling) tone. The second test also lasts approximately one minute. In an actual emergency, sirens will sound
for longer than one minute, between three to five minutes, and then will be repeated when the emergency or situation has
passed. For questions, please contact the Ramsey Police Department at 763-427-6812.

Ramsey City Residents
Sought to Serve on
Charter Commission

The city of Ramsey is currently seeking
eligible nominees to fill a vacancy on the city's
Charter Commission. Ramsey residents interest-
ed in serving on this Commission are requested
to submit a letter of interest to Jo Thieling, City
Clerk, 7550 Sunwood Drive NW, Ramsey, MN
55303. Letters of interest should contain the
applicant's name, address, telephone number,
work experience, education and any experience
in municipal affairs. In addition, applicants
should include a statement listing their reasons
for seel(ing appointment to the Charter Commis-
sion. If you have any questions, please contact
Jo Thieling at 763-433-9840.
The city will submit its list of eligible
nominees to the Chief Judge of the District Court
who will make the appointments to the Char-
ter Commission. Interested persons may also
submit their letter of interest directly to the Chief
Judge - The Honorable Gary R. Shurrer, Wash-
ington County Courthouse, 14949 - 62nd Street
N, P.O. Box 6, Stillwater, MN 55082-0006.

No Parking on
Public Streets

Parking is not allowed on any public street between the
hours of 2:00 am - 6:00 am year round. Vehicles in violation will
be cited and may be towed.

Free Dog and Calc;
Licenses oA}
During May

The city of Ramsey will not be holding its annual pet
clinic this year. We have again been unable to secure the services
of a veterinarian for the event. However, during the month of
May, the Ramsey Police Department will be providing dog and
cat licenses at no charge. Dog and cat licenses are good for two
years, or until expiration of the pet's rabies vaccination.
Free license may be obtained at the Ramsey Police De-
partment, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, during the
month of May. A copy of your pet's current rabies vaccination
must be provided.
City Ordinance requires that all dogs and cats over six
months of age be licensed. Licensing helps identify found pets
and returning them to their owners. Please contact the Ramsey
Police Department at 763-427-6812 if you have questions.

www.ci.ramsey.mn.us

5
