Councilmember introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: RESOLUTION # 07 -05- • RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF PLANNING FOR ACTIVE COMMUNITIES AND AUTHORIZE STAFF TO PREPARE A PROPOSAL IN RESPONSE TO BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD'S REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS. WHEREAS, according to the Anoka County Health Department, 27 percent of the County's adult residents are obese; and WHEREAS, the prevalence of overweight and obesity is increasing and threatens to decrease the quality of life and health in Anoka County; and WHEREAS, Blue Cross Blue Shield is seeking to partner with municipalities to incorporate active living principles into their comprehensive plans to achieve an increase in physical activity as a way of combating the imminent health risks and costs associated with overweight and obesity; and WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey has a similar goal to maintain a high quality of life for Ramsey residents; and WHEREAS, Blue Cross Blue Shield is offering cities the opportunity to present • proposals to enter into a contract where BCBS would provide funding to update comprehensive plans to incorporate active living principles regarding land use and transportation planning and facilities development; and WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey is embarking on the Comprehensive Plan update process; and WHEREAS, the City supports utilizing the Comprehensive Plan as a mechanism for addressing public health by working with BCBS to incorporate healthful land use patterns, facilities development, and park and recreation planning into the City's long -term vision. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: That the Ramsey City Council hereby supports incorporating efforts to increase physical activity into the Comprehensive Plan, and authorizes Staff to submit a proposal in response to Blue Cross Blue Shield's RFP. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember , and upon vote being taken thereon, the following • voted in favor thereof: -112-
