His concern was tying up this project with contingencies on properties and other <br />things associated with moving forward on the corridor. Mr. Overtoom indicated Mr. Peterson <br />has made a good faith effort to promote the southern route and that should be part of the <br />discussion of this development. The Council has not taken action to change that preferred route. <br />Councilmember Strommen noted Mr. Overtoom's concern that the current Comprehensive Plan <br />shows the cast/west corridor going through this plat. She suggested the Council state their <br />intention for the record of looking at an alternative alignment and going forward with the <br />southern route. <br />Councilmember Cook called for the vote. <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Cook, Olson, Elvig, Jeffrey, <br />Pearson, and Strommen. Voting No: None. <br />Motion by Councilm.ember Cook, seconded by Councilmember Elvig, that the preferred route of <br />167 Avenue be the southern alignment discussed at the recent Council work session, and that <br />the preferred route be taken forward in planning for the Comprehensive Plan. <br />Further discussion: Mr. Overtoom expressed concern with the possible diagonal street coming <br />p <br />• down from inside of the development across the northeast corner of his rope as the traffic <br />issues that may be generated with that T intersection in the middle of that curve would be a <br />dangerous intersection. Community Development Director Trudgeon explained the direction has <br />been given to follow the southern alignment, but the alignment that was presented at the work <br />session was not precise. Assistant Public Works Director Olson requested clarification whether <br />the intent is to construct the segment of trlcAvellu�e pushedRthrough <br />o 90-degree e 90- deaturns. <br />noted if this is not done all of the <br />Councilmember Elvig stressed the need to extend 167 Avenue to CR 5 as soon as possible to <br />mitigate traffic issues. He noted this is included in the Capital Improvement Plan and the <br />Comprehensive Plan. This road is identified as an MSA street in the City's plans, which will <br />require certain angle and speed capabilities. Mayor Gamec suggested staff begin talking to <br />residents in this area regarding the plans for the street extension. Mr. Peterson indicated <br />Oakwood Land Development has been aggressively working on this southern alignment. Their <br />engineers have worked under the understanding that this route is for this leg of the r ar <br />Land Development has purchased two of the three parcels y <br />has suggested to staff and the Council that they will give the right -of -way to the City at no cost. <br />Motion carried.
