<br />City of Ramsey <br />Active Community Planning Proposal <br />Deadline: June 1, 2007 <br />and trail, transportation and transit portions of the Comprehensive Plan need to be examined, updated to include <br /> <br />the investments that have been made to encourage active communities, and list defmitive policies for producing <br /> <br />more active lifestyles through the use of sidewalks, trails, and transit as alternate modes of transportation. Also, <br /> <br />the land use section should be examined, and a detailed analysis of <br /> <br />Finally, the City of Ramsey must continue to examine its ordinances with regard to subdivision <br /> <br />regulations, land use planning, and zoning. While Ramsey has made great strides recently to promote active living <br /> <br />by obtaining park and trail land, continuing to develop community parks, and promoting mixed use development, <br /> <br />there are many other opportunities to explore. The City ~s eager to discover alternatives to traditional <br /> <br />suburban/exurban development such as form-based coding, low-impact development, and compact (cluster) <br /> <br />development. Also, with the help of BCBS, the City is interested in exploring best practices for creating walkable <br /> <br />communities and retro-fitting existing large-lot residential developments to be accessible and friendly to <br /> <br />pedestrians through urban design techniques and traffic-calming measures. <br /> <br />Page 6 of 16 <br /> <br />-213- <br />
