PC CASE # 3 <br /> <br />RATIFY HIRING OF POLICE PATROL OFFICER <br /> By: Heidi A. Nelson, Asst. City Administrator <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />At their regular meeting on November 12, 2002, the City Council authorized the <br />recruitment for a vacant Police Patrol Officer position resulting from the retirement of <br />former Police Chief, David Gustafson and subsequent internal promotions. The position <br />was advertised externally and 62 applications were received. Interviews were conducted <br />with 23 of the applicants by a panel consisting of the First Sergeant Tim Dwyer, Sgt. Bob <br />Kuhn, Sgt. Brad Paplham, Investigator Sheldon Erdman, and the Asst. City <br />Administrator. Based on the panel's recommendation, Ms. Wieler began work with the <br />Department on January 6th. and. staff is requesting ratification of the hiring of Gina Wieler <br />for the position of Police Patrol Officer. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff is recommending ratifying the hiring of Gina Wieler for the position of full-time <br />Police Patrol Officer at a starting wage of $37,350/annually plus benefits and will accrue <br />vacation per City policy and LELS contract. Ms. Wieler has successfully completed <br />background checks, physical agility testing, and passed an employment physical and <br />drug/alcohol screen. Ms. Wieler began working with. the Department on January 6th, <br />2002.
