-58-

· The 26th Environmental Expo is scheduled for May 3rd, 2003. This community event
includes a very large tree sale and. indoor and outdoor exhibits on a myriad of
environmental topics. Ramsey's seven member Park and Recreation Commission
hosts a booth at this event. The EPTF also will staff the Saturday celebration. It is
hoped that the open space communication materials could be available for this
important celebration.

· The local cable television (Quad Cities TV) channel is seeking ideas for new
programming. Printed and web materials could possible be adapted into a short
cable TV broadcast.

The City's Ramsey Resident is published 11 times a year and is mailed to every
address in the city. Surveys have shown that more than 80% of Ramsey's households
read the Resident cover-to-cover.. Information developed as part of this proposal
could be integrated into the newsletter or potentially stuffed in to the mailing.

As indicated, Ramsey is experiencing development pressure like many suburban areas
around the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. However, Ramsey still has a few but
significant undeveloped natural areas. The unprecedented growth correlates 'and
contributes to rising land valuations - even residents that had no development aspirations
previously, are getting in the business. Therefore it is imperative that discussions
regarding open space protection occur quickly. Missing an oppertunity to protect
remaining natural areas in Ramsey now will affect our land, waters, and quality of life for
future generations of Ramsey citizens.

Attached for your information is Ramsey's LCMR proposal and a Park and Trail Plan
map. The City of Ramsey appreciates the work of the League of: Conservation Voters
Education Fund and looks forward to involving our citizens in open space protection.

4
