Candles may not be used without the prior approval of the City's Fire Marshal. See Candle Use regulations. Candles may be used for celebration purposes but must be used under supervision and in accordance \vith the follovling guidelines: 1. The use of candles shall be approved by one of the follov;ing officials ".."ithin the Municipal Center: a. Fire Marshal b. Fire Chief c. City Administrator 2. The use of Class I and II liquids and LP gas shall not be used. 3. Liquid lighting devices shall not be used unless approved by the Fire Marshal. 1. The device or holder shall be constructed to prevent the spillage of ""vax at a rate of more than .025 teaspoon per minute if tipped oyer. 5. The device or holder shall be designed so that it will retUTIl to the upright position after being tilted to an angle of 15 degrees from vertical. The only exceptions to this are devices that self extinguish if tipped over and do not spill wax if tipped ever. 6. The candle shall be placed in an area clear of combustibles and not \vithin the \vindow ledge '.vhere curtains, blinds, drapes, etc can start fire. They shall also not be placed near decorative materials. 7. Candles shall ,be limited to ONE unless approved by the Fire Marshal. 8, Adult supervision is required at all locations that candle's are lit. 9. Those that light the candles shall mctinguish the candles. .^.. common scenario is when someone is told to extinguish candles that were lit by others, that person does not know ho.....i many or ...yhere the candles were lit and one or more are left unattended a~ a potential fIre source, 10. Cancl~es shallinot be placed in an area that obstructs or potentially obstructs ,aisles or eXIt systems. 11. Hand held cabdles shall not be passed form one person to the other. 12. If the candles:(s) are in a candelabra configuration, the base needs to be secured- and balanced! I 13. Candles should only be lit by a lighter, matches should not be used as they can start fires v;h~n placed into the trash can v/ithin the room and if dropped put burn holes in the cbrpet. I LIABILITY FOR DAMAGE The user of the facilities as an individual and as a group are liable for any damage to public or private property or injury to any person resulting from the use or presence at the facilities. A conviction of vandalism can result in a $1000 fine and/or 90 days in jail.
