II <br /> <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> ! <br />I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS <br />By: Public Works Staff <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The Public Works Committee met on Tuesday, April 15, 2003 and discussed the following four <br />cases: <br /> <br />Case # 1 <br /> <br />Consider Changes to Municipal State Aid System <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski explained to the Committee the Municipal State Aid System which the <br />City receives over $600,000 annually from the state toward construction and maintenance. The <br />purpose of this case was to solicit from the Committee a recommendation to modify the City's <br />MSAS system such that major streets within the Town Center would become eligible to be <br />constructed with MSAS monies. <br /> <br />Action was taken by the Council at the April 22nd Council meeting. The necessary resolution has <br />been forwarded onto MnDOT State Aid. In addition to the routes recommended for addition at <br />the April 15th Public Works Committee, Staff also added the westward extension of the 167th <br />collector between Variolite Street and Armstrong Blvd. The City MSA system is now within <br />0.08 miles of the maximum allowable system mileage. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />No action required as action h-as already been taken. <br /> <br />Case #2 Adopt City of Ramsey Street Sweeping Policy <br />Background: <br /> <br />The Street Maintenance Supervisor explained to the Committee that the League of Minnesota <br />Cities recommends written policies as a way of informing citizens of maintenance operations, as <br />well as protecting the City in matter of litigation. <br /> <br />A motion was made to recommend that the City Council adopt the Street Sweeping Policy. <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee. <br /> <br />-241- <br /> <br /> <br />
