~

Community News

Sesquicentennial Competition
at the County Fair

This year's Anol(a County
Fair will include a few special open
class categories for sesquicentennial
items.
The SESQUICENTEN-
NIAL PHOTOGRAPH cate~ory.
This will be especially exciting to
folks who participated in the wagon
camp or attended the event at the fair-
grounds on May 18 and 19 and have
sesquicentennial photographs. This
category is broad enough to include
all photos of sesquicentennial events,
and of things related to the celebra-
tion of our history. Wagon train
photos, pictures of events such as the
tractor pull, traveling exhibit, and
the barn dance, as well as local city
parades would make good subjects
for this category. The expectation is
that the entries will be current photos,
as opposed to historic photos. Photos
may be digital or film, and may be
black and white or colored. Photos
may be printed in different sizes, but
must be stills - no video. Presenta-
tion, as well as content, is considered

in the judging, so matting or framing
a photo may be a good idea.
The SESQUICENTEN-
NIAL QUILT cate~ory. The book,
Stitches in Time, published by the
Anol(a County Historical Society,
and available at the History Center
in Anoka, contains directions for
14 blocks representing 14 areas of
Anol(a County history. Only those
quilts that use the traditional patterns
in the book are eligible for this cat-
egory. Subcategories include quilts
that are hand quilted, quilts that are
machine quilted by the entrant, and
quilts that are professionally quilted
by machine. Smaller projects includ-
ing table runners and wall hangings
are also eligible.
For additional information,
or to enter a photo or a quilt, go to the
Anol(a County Fair website, www.
anokacountyfair.com, and clicl( on
"Open Class Premium Book". Then
select "Needle Crafts" or "Photogra-
phy and Fine Art".
The Anoka County Fair is to

Articles contained on these pages and other areas of this newsletter are for the
purpose of providing il?fonnation about events or initiatives occurring in, or bordering,
the Ramsey cOlnmunity.
