•
CASE # I
REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS
By: Public Works Staff
Background:
The Public Works Committee met on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 and discussed the following six
cases:
CITIZEN INPUT
Case #1 Request to Vacate a Portion of Willemite Street
Background:
On June 4, 2007 staff received a letter dated May 30, 2007 from Mrs. Linda Stenquist property
owner at 15240 Willemite Street petitioning the City for the vacation of a cul -de -sac which was
platted in 1972 as a part of the Greenland Hills subdivision but was never constructed. This street
does not require a cul -de -sac since Willemite Street intersects with 152 Lane.
Staff would have no objection to the vacation of a portion of the cul -de -sac. However, it will be
necessary to retain at least a 66 foot right -of -way through the Willemite /152 Lane comer
• alignment.
In addition; the current Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) anticipates the realignment of
Variolite/Uranimite Street as a collector street into the Town Center. Included in the
Committee's packet is an excerpt from the CIP showing this anticipated collector Street. Since
no detailed design work for this alignment has been prepared at this time, staff would point out
that it may be advisable to retain the easternmost 40 feet of this dedicated right -of -way in the
event that the centerline of the final alignment would shift to the section line.
Motion to recommend to City Council that the cross hatched portion of the Willemite Street cul-
de -sac as identified on the figure entitled "Cul -de -Sac Petitioned for Vacation" be recommended
for vacation, and that staff be directed to initiate vacation procedures for this portion of right of
way.
The following friendly amendment was made to the motion: To recommend to City Council that
the cross hatched portion of the Willemite Street cul -de -sac as identified on the figure entitled
"Cul -de -Sac Petitioned for Vacation" be recommended for vacation, that staff be directed to
initiate vacation procedures for this portion of right of way, and that any costs associated with
the vacation would be the responsibility of the applicant.
Action:
t Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee.
—117—
