Case #7: Receive Current Precinct Map for Study

City Administrator Schroeder presented information to the Commission with regard to where the
present and past Council live and also all who ran in the 1996 election. He also presented
information on the population size of the precincts and the cost of adding one or more precincts.
He estimated the 2002 election to have 11,600 voters in the City of Ramsey which would
identify a need for six or seven precincts as opposed to the five we presently have.

Consensus of the Commission was that there would be an ongoing discussion of wards, but that
nothing would be physically done with this until the 2000 census is available. A phasing plan
should be placed on paper, and when the City is at the point where this plan (ward or precinct
expansion) should be implemented, it can be done. It was felt that this could be done then with
the least cost impact and the least disruption.

COMMISSION INPUT

1) Chairperson Steffen

Commissioner Donovan stated that Chairperson Steffen has done a terrific job of chairing the
Commission meetings, he has given good direction and has done a great service to his
community.

The rest of the Commission agreed.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Councilmember Kiefer and seconded by Spain Brist to adjourn the meeting.

Motion carried.
