COMMISSION BUSINESS

Case #1: Commission Members Interview Review.

As the Commission members are aware, the EDC is currently down to three members with Mary
Ullen's decision not to seek reappointment. Prior to this evening's meeting, the EDC
Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, and the City Council Personnel Committee interviewed four
candidates for the openings on the Commission.

Chairperson Wagner informed the Commission that only three of the four candidates-were able
to attend that evening's interviews and that the fourth candidate will be interviewed on Thursday,
February 13, 1997. Chairperson Wagner further stated that it will be the recommendation of the
interview panel to appoint Lydia Scheiber and Lisa Montague to the Economic Development
Commission. This should take place at the February 1 lth City Council meeting, allowing for
their attendance at our next meeting. Chairperson Wagner recommended that Mr. Gromberg put
together some packets of information about the EDC for the next meeting.

Commissioner Kent agreed with Chairperson Wagner and said that the two new tentative
members should be strong additions to the Commission.

No further Commission action is required on this issue.

Case #2: Commission Vision.

The Commission has been discussing what the future direction of the Commission should be and
how the goals can be achieved. At previous meetings, the remaining members of the EDC have
been reviewing and evaluating the charge given to the EDC and how the EDC can best serve that
charge and provide information to the City Council for development of the City. Based upon
these previous discussions, the following items have been identified:

Reduce the involvement of the EDC in the Business Appreciation Day to the role of a
Board of Directors, with less involvement of the day to day planning of the event.

Changing of the format of the Business Expo to more of services provided by the City.
This change is due primarily to the problems that have been experienced with attendance
and involvement of the business community.

Provide a plan/vision for how the Highway #10 corridor should be developed for the
future.

Intensification of the business visitation program including breakfast meetings, business
walk-throughs, etc.

When the EDC has developed an idea as to what they believe should be the direction of the
Commission. We should draft a memorandum to the City Council indicating that direction.

Economic Development Commission/February 6, 1997
Page 2 of 4
