Public Works Director Olson stated the only thing that will fix this road is a reconstruct. The question is whether to approach the neighbors and decide whether they want to go with the. installation of sewer and water. If they do not go with sewer and water they may just go with a resurface and do a rural design, and hopefully they can expand it in the future if there is the need for sewer and water: Mayor Gamec noted it looks like the majority of the landowners want to sell. He would hate to put something in and in a year or so turn around and do something else. Public Works Director Olson stated the consensus of the Committee was to direct staff to meet with the property owners and discuss street improvements. He stated these residents have been a very patient group that has not complained at all. This is not a very pleasant road to drive on in the spring, with water sometimes standing for 50 to 100 feet. Staff will meet with the property owners and see what they want the City to do. He also talked to John Peterson; there were 10 to 12 property owners that were interested in selling to him and subdividing their land, which would require sewer and water. However, due to the economic turndown in the residential _ market Mr. Peterson does not think it will happen soon. Mayor Gamec suggested an informal discussion with the property owners and the Public Works Committee. Public Works Director Olson indicated staff will meet with the property owners and will see if they would like to attend a Committee meeting in September or October. MAYOR, COUNCIL AND STAFF INPUT 1) City Administrator Interviews Mayor Gamec announced the schedule for the City Administrator finalists' reception and interviews on July 12 and 13. 2) League of Minnesota Cities Conference Councilmember Strommen stated Councilmembers Look, Olson, and she attended the League of Minnesota Cities meeting in Duluth and had some discussions with colleagues from other Anoka County communities regarding the median issue and the closing of roads with medians. They brainstormed a couple of ideas that Interim City Administrator Nelson will be following up on. The two items they came up with was having the City look at hiring a traffic engineering consultant to come up with alternatives to present to the County, and secondly to work with their neighboring communities to approach the County collaboratively. They had discussions with folks from Anoka and Coon Rapids that they may be willing to form a coalition. Interim City Administrator Nelson indicated she and Public Works Director Olson will work together and bring this forward. City Council / July 10,2007 Page 23 of 24
