Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmember Beyer, Chairperson Pearson and
Boardmembers Lewandowski and McLaughlin. Voting No: None. Absent: Boardmember
Weiss.

Case #3: Recreational Burn Discussion

ChiefKapler noted that the spring of 1997 was a challenging grass/brush fire season for the Fire
Department. The volume reached a point where he asked for an immediate cancellation of the
recreational burning program. He asked for discussion of different options to keep the
recreational burning in place, but to also protect the community from the hazards of a fire
"getting away" from a resident. He wondered if we should limit our burns to certain times of the
year.

Mayor Gamec thought maybe it has to be changed where burning is allowed only during certain
times.

Boardmember Lewandowski suggested maybe no exceptions to the 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. burn
period.

Mayor Gamec suggested using the signs at the banks, LeTourneaus, the City Hall sign, etc. to
advertise a burning ban.

Chief Kapler suggested maybe a notice in with the AEC utility bills also.

Chairperson Pearson felt that a ban should be on an as needed basis and then use the signs as
mentioned by the Mayor or the mailing as mentioned by the Chief.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Councilmember Beyer and seconded by Boardmember Lewandowski to adjourn the
meeting.

Motion carried.
