CASE # /
REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS
By: Public Works Staff
Background:
The Public Works Committee met on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 and discussed the following two
cases:
CITIZEN INPUT
Mr. Scott Rothburn, 15370 Xkimo Street NE, stated he has been dealing with Mike McDowell
regarding the pond area in the rear of their yards. He has a signed petition from the, other
homeowners, and they are looking for the pond to be repaired. He asked if there are funds being
held from Arcon by the City that are due towards their pond. He stated the pond is lined and it is
obviously not holding water; he has documentation to prove that.
This issue will be included on the agenda of the next Public Works Committee meeting, which
will be in September.
Case #1 Request to Post Dead End Signs
Background:
The City recently received a request for the placement of a dead end sign at the intersection of
Nutria Street and 168 Lane. The sign requested was for the south leg of the intersection. It has
been past practice to post such signs upon request if the end of the street was not visible from the
nearest intersection. In practice, staff has usually posted the requested signs since many of the
dead ends are located in areas without street lighting where a dead end, which may be visible
during the day, is not during the evening.
An alternative could be to allow staff to continue to post these signs at their discretion but to
report the intention to place a new sign to the Public Works Committee prior to the placement.
This would allow at least cursory review by the Committee and would provide advanced
knowledge to Councilmember's prior to a new sign being erected.
Motion to recommend to City Council that the existing Policy Regarding Consideration of
Traffic Control Requests be modified accordingly to allow staff to post dead end signs after
notification to the City Council through the Weekly Update of its intent to post such signs, and to
authorize staff to post a Dead End sign on the north and south legs of 168' h Lane at Nutria Street.
Action:
Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee.
—251—
