N.W., ANDOVER, MINNESOTA 55304 -4005 (763) 862 -4200 FAX (763) 862 -4201 June 29, 2007 Wayne Lemaniak MnDOT Metro District — Traffic Engineering 1500 West County Road B2 Roseville, MN 55113 Re: 2007 Highway Safety Improvement Program Submittal — CR 57 (Sunfish Lake Boulevard) at Alpine Drive Dear Mr. Lemaniak, Please find attached a submittal from the Anoka County Highway Department for funding for Federal fiscal years 2011 and 2012 through the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) for the intersection of CR 57 (Sunfish Lake Boulevard) at Alpine Drive, located within the City of Ramsey, Anoka County, Minnesota. This submittal is made in response to the current request for submittals from the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT). Due to the frequency and increasing severity of crashes, the Anoka County Highway Department installed an All -Way Stop at the intersection in March of 2006, as 5 or more crashes occurred within a 12 -month period that were susceptible to correction by a multi - way STOP installation, including a fatal crash occurrence on 6./17/2005. While the crash historyy at the intersection has subsequently improved, an All -Way Stop is not the preferred long -term intersection safety solution, as traffic volumes and development in the area are increasing significantly. Consequently, a more efficient, permanent safety solution is desired to be constructed at the intersection. This proposed project would be designed to decrease both the frequency and the severity of the crashes occurring at the intersection through the following project components: 1. Construction of a new traffic signal with left turn phasing and full pedestrian features to appropriately assign right of way to motorists negotiating the intersection; —276 — Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity Employer
